What is Coaching?

Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential. (International Coach Federation)

Coaching is therefore about the present and the future, not the past. It is not about how you came to be where you are. It’s about getting you from where you are now to the future you want – personally and/or professionally.

And the key word in this definition is partnering.  As a coach, Mark partners with his clients in articulating and pursuing the outcomes that they want. In other words, his clients are in the driver’s seat. Mark will sometimes navigate, discuss the terrain, check the instruments, and offering insights on alternative routes, but the client is in control!

As a professional trained and experienced coach Mark has become very skillful at asking great questions which assist clients in getting clarity on the outcomes they want, how to pursue those outcomes, what obstacles are in the way, and how to address those obstacles to move forward. Coaching therefore enables clients to discover and release the powerful resources they have within them to achieve their personal and professional outcomes.

Who is my Mark's Ideal Client?

Anyone who has a desire to grow – personally and/or professionally – and who is willing to embark on a journey of discovering and applying the resources to make this happen. Mark is equally as comfortable working with a senior leader in business or government as with a long-term unemployed person, army officers, ill and injured soldiers, leaders in non-for-profit organisations and churches. Some of the spheres in which he has successfully coached include:

  • leadership – better communication, more resilience, greater awareness and emotional intelligence, more effective team leadership, vision casting, empowering others, etc.
  • stronger personal relationships in marriage, family and the workplace.
  • career transitions
  • overcoming anxiety and depression
  • increasing self-confidence
  • clarity on life purpose, values and goals
  • and many more.

After 1 200 plus hours of coaching ill and injured soldiers, Mark has become very experienced in coaching to build resilience, which is critical for leadership. Leaders in today’s world deal with complex, ambiguous rapidly changing and multi-dimensional challenges. Coaching to build greater awareness and resilience can release leaders into new levels of confidence and effectiveness.

Leadership Coaching

Whether it be in the corporate, government, not-for-profit or small business sectors, leadership in this day an age is incredibly demanding. Leaders in today’s world deal with complex, ambiguous, rapidly changing and multi-dimensional challenges. Leadership is not for the faint hearted!

And yet, leaders who thrive experience incredible fulfillment knowing they are making a difference and fulfilling their higher purpose. In order to thrive, leaders must be adaptable, resilient, focused, self-aware and emotionally intelligent. They need to be able to inspire a vision, communicate with clarity and handle conflict in a healthy manner. Above all, thriving leaders are acutely aware of how their work aligns with their higher purpose and values. Mark’s leadership coaching has enabled clients to experience significant growth within all of these areas.

When Mark coaches leaders, he spends a lot of time listening to his clients and asking clarifying questions in order to ascertain a clear agreement on the outcomes that they are looking for. He then coaches to these outcomes, continually checking in with clients to check if they wish to change or refocus, which often happens as greater awareness is achieved through the coaching process. The client is always in the driver’s seat!

With over 1 000 hours of coaching long-term unemployed and  over 1 200 hours of coaching ill and injured soldiers, Mark has become very experienced in coaching to build resilience and adaptability, which he very effectively translates to coaching leaders in any sphere. Resilient and adaptable leaders are leaders who thrive! Coaching to build greater awareness and resilience can release leaders into new levels of confidence and effectiveness.

Personal Development Coaching

How is Personal Development Coaching different from Leadership Coaching?  In reality they overlap considerably.   Invariably leaders who are coached experience real personal growth.

However Mark coaches many people who don’t consider themselves to be leaders but who wish to develop personally in areas such as:

  • increased self-esteem and self confidence
  • clarity on purpose in life, values and goals
  • dealing with stress, anxiety and anger in a healthy  manner
  • greater self-awareness
  • better communication
  • addressing procrastination
  • overcoming habits and addictions
  • and more!

Coaching is a powerful tool for addressing these issues, resulting in greater happiness and fulfillment in one’s personal and professional life.  This is about effective and resourceful self-leadership.   Mark believes that while not everyone will be leaders in companies and organisations, everyone has a measure of leadership within them and can choose to be great self-leaders.   Personal Development is about great self-leadership.  With over 3 000 hours of coaching, Mark is an expert in coaching self-leadership!

Relationship Coaching

For over 30 years Mark has been a trained Facilitator of PREPARE/ENRICH, the leading relationship assessment and skills-building program used nationally and internationally, built on a solid research foundation and proven to significantly improve a couple’s relationship.   Combined with his coach training and experience, Mark is highly skilled as a relationship coach, and has served couples preparing for marriage and those in long-term committed relationships who are either experiencing difficulties or are doing well and want to experience an even greater dimension of joy and fulfillment within their relationship.

Coaching Packages

Mark offers packages of three, six, nine or twelve sessions, and will develop a package that works for you, the client.  Neuro-scientific research has shown that a minimum of six sessions is ideal to enable neural change.  However, you may wish to begin with three sessions to test the water and decide whether you wish to continue.

Mark is always willing to have a no-obligation conversation with you to hear your situation and discuss and coaching package that would enable you to achieve the outcomes you are seeking.
